WOYWW? #218

I'm not sure what is going on with Wednesday's for me...last week I woke up at 0 dark thirty and couldn't sleep. This morning, after going to bed at 1am, I awoke at 5am. Luckily I DID fall back asleep. And it's a dark, gloomy, rainy kinda day. Ah well, I won't feel guilty crafting right? But, I will feel guilty if I don't get some housework done. :-/

Anywho....today IS Wednesday and that means it's time to share my crafty desk with all my fellow crafters. Head over to Ms. Julia's desk at Stamping Ground where all the fun begins. :-)

So here it is...I've been off for a few days so managed to get one big photo folder done from my Munich trip. The pile of paper is still sitting to the left there and you can baaaarely see it sticking into the picture. I also finished a few samples for my DT (almost caught up for the month there!!) And finished 3 identical cards for Operation Write Home (OWH). What else you see it the mess accompanied from all that card making. Glitter (not for OWH!), spellbinder dies, ink, etc..

I've been contemplating how to store my Spellbinder dies..I think I've decided on this...

An 8X8 photo album. I cut up plastic page dividers and added magnetic strips and the die. Of course, the initial pages aren't filled up yet and it's already not closing properly...so we'll see.

A bit of "nature"...so I knew there was something living under my one front step. Saw it once and with the arrival of rats I figured that's what it was....but, I was wrong.

I saw this little leafy bug on my front porch, right outside my doorstep last week. When I went to make sure the door was locked before leaving.....

this is what I see......

a chipmunk happily munching away on the leafy bug....I have video too. It was too funny watching.

P.S. I almost forgot.....I've never sent out a RAK or a give-away but I want to do something here....so if you leave a comment here (and are following me) I will send out a small goodie box of some crafty things. I'll pick out a random name from all the comments. So, leave a comment, share this if you'd like...

  1. I just think squirrels are so adorable! Even if they supposedly are just big tree rats. :) Your desk gets more and more creative looking every week! :) Glad you've gotten through at least one of your photo envelopes and hit on something that might work for storing your dies. I ended up just putting the magnetic sheets on the back of the original cardboard like thing they came on(for the Spellbinders brand) and using that for storage. I like it because it takes up very little space, which is at a premium in my craft cave! lol Do come see the explosion that happened all over my house this last week...I'm sure its good for a laugh! :) Hugs! And please enter me in your drawing...I am intrigued by what could be in a small box of crafty goodies and what is a RAK? I'm just clueless there! lol :) ~Deeyll #51

  4. Hi Gita! Do you know, I never saw a chipmunk irl? He looks so cute! We don't have them in the UK. That little bug is - I think - what we call a shield bug in the UK - poor little chap soon made a tasty meal for Mr Chipmunk! I only have 3 Spellbinders at the moment so storage of them not a problem! I think I would probably need a new house to live in if I followed my inclinations and bought all the craft stuff I see and long for on Deskers' blogs. Julie Ann xx #41

  5. Must be a munchy tasty little bit by the looks of the chipmunk totally ignoring you as you snap away. I have/had an armadillo living under my shed for the last few years but I haven't seen him at all this year. I thought each year it was a new and different one but a Google search told me they live over 5 years so it might have been the same one. Like the looks of the ghosty card. I have been trying to find some Halloweenie things and ended up with a totally messed up craft area! Oh well thats life. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by my desk and commenting. 6. Squirrels divide nations..some think they are a pest of a vermin and others think they're cute and to be encouraged. I haven't an opinion to be honest, but then, I've never 'suffered' from squirrel!! Hope you don't. And hey, if it's a bug eater..
I have my nesties etc stored on magnetic sheets too, but not in an album, the sheets are stuck to chipboard and stand in a magazine holder next to my Big Shot. Really like the album idea though..much tidier...hmmm....

  7. Hello Gita. Thanks for dropping by. Seems like just about everyone who buys these dies has trouble knowing how to store them - I don't have a big shot or similar, so don't have to think up an answer - but it doesn't seem there IS an easy way! All the best with your try. It looks good.
    have a great week.

  9. That leafy bug must be tasty!! I feel sorry for it...but the circle of life I guess :) I store my spellbinders on magnetic sheets that cover air vents. You can get them at Lowes or a home improvement store. They come three in a package and I cut them in half. I then put a piece of cardboard between two and have back to back magnetic sheets. I can fit a few dies on each sheet. But it's not the greatest...I have so many dies, when I'm flipping through the sheets, some fall off and it's annoying. But it's the best solution I've found so far. Happy Wednesday :)

  11. (Before I forget, Gita, I wanted to let you know that Duke didn't really eat my embellie sandals. I pretty much made that up! Sorry if you worried about him! Also, please leave me out of the draw and pass that on to others ... I have waaaay too much stuff as it is, but thank you!)

Your desk looks great and I love your Boo! cards for OWH! I hope your die storage works for you. I can't use the magnetic sheets, so I store mine in DVD boxes from Target. Thank you for that adorable chipmunk photo ~ poor leafy bug ~ but good source of greens for the chippie!!

Happy WOYWW! Thank you so much for coming to visit me! Have a wonderful week! Darnell #12

  13. A bad case of the Chipmunks, huh? Are they as bad as Death Watch Beetle?? No, he's way too cute for that!! As a non paper crafter, I notice that die storage seems to be the thing that you most have problems with, your album looks great!

  14. hey, i also use the air vent magnets. don't tell on us or they'll raise the price. i use cd holders to store mine. i recently got a double stack one that holds taller dies. it won't work for the grand ones but does for the others. i recommend the ones that zip/ that way if one pops off it's still in your stuff not along the trail. i like the ones that hold at least 24. ok, i don't have a chipmonk story but a possum story for ya. we saw one trying to hide on the edge of our deck. the dogs must have scared him away from there. so we see scratch marks around our shed. he must be living there now we figure. a few days later the man comes in and asks me possibly the oddest question he has in 31 years. DID YOU PUT A TOMATOE IN THE POSSOM HOLE? now to many people that would be a slight bit strange but let me explain. this year we have had so much rain that our garden has barely produced enough tomatoes for me. we have 21 or 24 plants. not only do i have few tomatoes this year but my DOGS EAT THEM OFF THE VINE. so to even think i would wast one and plug a possum hole is exponentially dumb! so out the man goes and buys a motion sensative camera. why do we need that, i ask. duh, so we can see if the possum is there. so $75 later we have freaky weird pics of the dogs and their daily business. but that's not enough, oh no, it's his birthday time, so i ask what he would like. he brings me a picture form the local hardware store of this instrument with a light and carmera on it. so he can see into the underside of the shed and find out if the possum is there! ok just for the record $150 later we can say there is no possum there. oh in case your wondering, as soon as my dog saw the tomatoe she ate it. hope this gives all a little laugh for today. have a great one!

    1. Thanks for sharing Christi! that's too funny, spending the money to find out there's nothing there. Can you return it though? :-) Didn't think dogs really like tomatoes...little stinkers taking them from your vines.

  15. I had no idea that chipmunks ate bugs, I thought they were vegetarians! Mind you that leafy little guy had it coming!!
Love the Halloweeny cards. I store my Grand dies in a 12" x 12" scrapbook. It works well for me.

  16. Liking that storage solution. I just added a magnetic business card to the original folder and I store mine in magazine racks. Works for me but it is not at all pretty :)

The leaf bug is sweet. I prefer insects to butterflies, if I'm honest. They have so much more character :)

    Happy (still catching up) WOYWW!

  19. I bought magnetic sheets that I keep in a ringbinder. Tried magnetic photopaper at the start, but the magnet wasn't strong enough. Glad you've found a solution that works for you. love the chipmunk pic. Have a great week, Hugs Shaz #118 xx

    1. I realized the same thing with magnetic photo paper. Tried returning it today without a receipt. Can't find it and they want to give me less $$ for it. :-/ So will look for it but they say only within 30 days and I know it's been longer.

  20. I don't own many dies yet, so I just store them in the original packaging in a fabric-sided bin along with the plates for my Cuttlebug and my embossing folders. I like your album storage idea. The bug-eating picture was a bit graphic with the insect's legs lying in pieces in front of the chipmunk -- ewwwwwwwwwwww. Guess I won't be a wildlife photographer -- ha, ha. I'll leave that to you. :-) Happy WOYWW. ~ Laura #131

  23. Did it twice on this one so you get it in three parts. I was going to say, I have had so little sleep these past three nights that I will sleep for England tonight (I hope). We had a very hard bed in the lastlace we slept and it hurt my hips, and my ribs even became sore. Now we have moved on and the bed is lovely. I hope to sleep well tonight - and hope you do too.

  24. Hi Gita, Happy WOYWW for yesterday.

Thanks for visiting and the good news is that the problem with comments is fixed, finally someone told me I needed to change the template! If only I knew before. Anyway everything looks weird now and I have been moving stuff trying to make it better, so any comments on the layout now will be taken into account!
You have a lovely lodger, and one that eats bugs! I see Halloween cards. Storage, always a problem and just when you think you have it sorted they change the size of the dies, or some better thing comes along, I have such a mix and a whole heap of dies still in their packaging that I just don't have storage for, I ran out of the DVD cases I was using, and I have a Artbin case but only three sheets for it, and maybe I need to do something soon about this! Then there are the embossing folders and don't even mention stamps!

My dogs chase the birds, but they come back, and we had to put up a small fence to stop the dogs digging through next door's rotten fence to get at their two dogs who antagonise mine - they are all boys! So the birds have a little more protection and I haven't seen the sparrowhawk kill any little birds since we moved it and put up the fence. You must put up a photo of your closet, I can't imagine it!

  26. What a fabulous work desk Gita, I want to come and play, love the pictures, I have never seen a Chipmunk, for real (well except for Alvin and his friend, LOL), so cute, I have had my hubby taking pictures of butterflies, on our buddleia bush, as they were quite scare that year...love your spellbinder storage, too, mines are just in plastic cd holders and in a box, mind you I don't have too many just yet....Avril (105) xxx

  27. Poor bug ah the sacrifices of nature but that squirrel is a beauty he looks like a statue in the picture, never seen a squirrel in real life either. I store my dies in an hard A4 file box on chipboard sheets mounted with Magnetic sheets and it is working a treat, the A4 file box is of really sturdy plastic and easily added onto if I want to expand my collection at any time. I found the files just were not doing it and after time starting to break, so happy with this one now. Here is the link if it helps from awhile ago. http://queenartoypia.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/woyww-210.html
